Heike Berl – Draw Hope

Heike Berl – Draw Hope

11 November – 10 December

Heike Berl received, among others, the lithography award of the Munich House of Artists Foundation (II. Prize) and a travel scholarship of the City of Dresden to the Lithographic Academy Tidaholm, Sweden. Since that time, she has traveled to Sweden very often and has studied Swedish culture and nature intensively. In 2022, Heike Berl participated in the International Lithography Symposium in Tidaholm. She demonstrated paper making in the paper making workshop at the Lithographic Academy, where she also created new works.
On the one hand, Heike Berl’s solo exhibition presents the lithography series on nature themes from Tidaholm and the surrounding area, showing the artist’s deep connection with the landscape. Furthermore, the focus of the exhibition is on large-scale works made of handmade paper, which deal with the beauty but also the destruction of nature. Recent drawings, artist books and editions show the diversity with which the artist approaches contemporary issues.

Heike Berl is a visual artist based in Dresden, Germany. A graduate of the Anhalt University Dessau of Design and the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, she explores the idea of poetry and transience in life and nature in her work. In 2003, Berl studied with Professor Andreas von Weizsäcker at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, which helped inspire her to become a paper artist.
Since that time, she has worked as a visual artist, specializing in drawing, pulp painting and printmaking. Currently, Heike Berl is the IAPMA Archive Keeper (International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists) while also making international study trips, workshops and lectures.
